For trainers who have experimented successfully with those, or other similar activities, and who are interested in building their skills, The Experiential Learning Starter Pack contains two versatile and inexpensive resources, each with multiple applications. Both Workstations and the expresspack of images offer a trainer the opportunity to work creatively and each can be integrated into a variety of programmes, providing opportunities for group interaction.

However, they are very different in their design:

Workstations is a team problem-solving and information management task, suitable for small groups, which has a set of rules, a recommended process and a correct answer. It comes with a full set of instructions for the trainer and suggestions about how to de-brief the activity to ensure maximum learning about communication, teamwork and problem-solving.

The expresspack does not contain a task: it is a set of carefully selected images which are open to individual interpretation and which have been chosen because they trigger an emotional response in the viewer. These images are designed to open discussion and can be used to explore how people are feeling, to explore themes (eg. ‘Choose an image which reflects an aspect of leadership’ or ‘Choose an image that represents your team working at its best’) or to create future visions (eg. ‘Select a range of images that suggest how you wish this organisation to develop over the next 12 months’).
